Podcast English Translation:

Hello dear listeners,  I am Yee Shen Hao, a Senior Wealth Manager from Phillip Securities.

Before we begin, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our listeners a Happy Chinese New Year and Good Luck in the Year of the Dragon.

Recently, the market has predicted that the Federal Reserve may soon lower interest rates.

Driven by this, the U.S. stock market has been hitting record highs since November last year.

But this week, the United States released its consumer price index for January on Tuesday, local time, with a year-on-year increase of 3.1%.

Although this was lower than December’s 3.4%, it was higher than market expectations.

Inflation continues to be above the Fed’s 2% target, and the job market remains strong.

As a result, the market generally believes that the timing of interest rate cuts is expected to be postponed from March or April to June.

The above mentioned sentiment resulted in investors selling their holdings which led to the U.S. stock market experiencing a sharp decline on Tuesday.

The three major stock indexes fell by more than 1.4%, the largest single-day decline since March last year.

The next day on Wednesday, major stock indexes in Europe and Asia also fell after opening.

However, after the U.S. opened on Wednesday, panic subsided and the three major indexes rebounded again.

On a side note, the 10-year U.S. Treasury bond yield hit a two-month high.

I believe that if the inflation rate continues to remain above the 2% target, the Fed will most likely have to wait until September to cut interest rates.

Regardless of the direction of inflation, I recommend that investors understand their risk tolerance and
Make mid- to long-term investment plans and asset allocation,
In this way, we will not be disturbed by short-term market fluctuations.

Always remember to take the challenge calmly and reap the long-term rewards.

The above is my view on the market. For more details, you are always welcome to contact me.

To end off, here’s wishing our listeners a Happy Chinese New Year once again
